CONCERT FORMAT:
We present a most aptly timed concert of all-Russian classical music, following on the heels of our own presidential inauguration, and international controversies. Immerse yourself in Russian music and poetry, which have been the voice of the people crossing over eras and regimes, enduring and inspiring all in its wake. This singularly powerful culture of expression imparts the passions of love, despair, fight, and resistance that continue to resonate, in Russia and beyond.
We play music expressing wordless emotions, found in the creative energies of nature traversing Scriabin’s 2nd Piano Sonata, conjured by the deeply Russian and expatriated Rachmaninoff, and unleashed from viscerally compelling cello works by Arvo Part.
Complementary writings will be spoken in both Russian and English. We draw music from the artistic well of great composers with works that are directly inspired by the Russian people’s poets, Marina Tsvetayeva, Anna Akhmatova, Boris Pasternak, Alexander Blok, Osip Mandelstam.
