With “War of the Romantics,” Joe Barron (portraying Hanslick) returns to the stage after an absence of more than 20 years. In a previous life, he worked in theaters in the Washington, D.C., area, where his roles included Solyony in “Three Sisters,” Hovstad in “An Enemy of the People,” the killer in “Mystery Play,” and Lord John (among others) in “The Elephant Man.” He also directed productions of “Krapp’s Last Tape,” “Purgatory” and “The Bob and Ray Suite.” After his return to Philadelphia, he entered journalism and, in addition to his regular reporting and editing duties, wrote about classical music for Digital First Media. His blog, “Liberated Dissonance,” is also about music, mostly.
