An exciting array of powerful keyboard music, including some of the finest pieces composed for duo-piano performance.
Samuel Barber – SOUVENIRS
Johannes Brahms – SAINT ANTHONY VARIATIONS
Sergei Prokofiev – BALLET SUITE from ‘ROMEO and JULIET’
Sergei Rachmaninoff – SUITE #2 FOR TWO PIANOS
The intricacies of music woven back and forth between two pianists is a thrilling sound with which to fill a hall. We will share our own thoughts about this music along the way. From the playfulness and charm of Prokofiev’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and Samuel Barber’s whimsical ‘Souvenirs’ (originally for four-hand piano), the concert culminates in the majestic music of Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn (the original title of ‘St. Anthony Variations’) and the fantastic movements of sweeping lines and color in Rachmaninoff’s inimitable ‘Second Suite for Two Pianos.’
